No matter what anyone says, the fastest way to reach your career goals would be to chase the money. Now i'm not saying to be in cahoots with a Nigerian prince as good as it sounds, but the idea is that in the corporate world, your value is really based on how much your company or organization is willing to pay you. That pat on the back is not going to pay the bills.
Too often, I hear people that complain about not having the time to look for a job. Reality check - everyone is stuck at work. While you should be giving your all at work not just for the company but for yourself as well, that doesn't mean that what you do at work can't help you gain that new job. Here are some tips to help you supercharge that search while still at work.
On any Friday night, go and head to a bar and seat yourself anywhere near a bunch of guys or ladies in corporate gear and tune in to their conversation. As the night goes on, you would probably hear of chatter about bonuses, bitchy bonuses and someone asking another if they knew of anyone hiring. Of all people, why would that person ask a colleague or a business partner/associate for a job opening?
You probably got here because you are at that point in your life where you are starting to question your professional life and if it is in balance with your weight/lifestyle/everyone else's schedule. I'm guessing by now your life is no longer in sync and you are thinking if a career/job change will help. I don't have a magic potion to solve your problem but I do have a few pieces of advice for you.
